Whole School Evaluation

Whole School Evaluation Report 2016

In December 2016, we welcomed a team of inspectors from the Department of Education, who carried out a Whole School Evaluation (Management, Leadership & Learning). During their two week visit they examined many aspects of our school, including meetings with various co-ordinators and others involved in the running of the school, a tour of the school building, meetings with students and visits to classes to observe teaching and learning at Gaelcholáiste Chéitinn. Parents and students completed questionnaires in relation to their experiences of Gaelcholáiste Chéitinn, and the Board of Management also met with the inspectors.

We welcome the inspectors’ very positive feedback after all inspections, particularly in relation to our comprehensive curriculum, care of students and the quality of teaching and learning in the school.

We look forward to working together with our staff, parents, students and the Board of Management to maintain and build on their positive findings, and to work on implementing the inspectors’ recommendations for the further improvement of our school.

Here are some of the comments from the inspectors report:

The school presents as a community of leaders strongly committed to a core mission: ensuring all students are cared for and supported so that they can achieve their full potential.

A strong culture of innovation, evaluation and review is clearly evident in the work of the school.

Staff present as a highly committed, motivated and mutually supportive group of professionals focused on what is best for the school.

Significant work in planning, teaching and learning, and care for students is making a palpable difference to the experiences of students in the school.

Overall, the standard of teaching, learning and assessment was very good with the numerous examples of practice of the highest standard.

The school has worked to its utmost to tailor the curriculum to the aspirations and needs of its students. A broad and balanced curriculum is provided.

In very many instances, the passion for and interest of teachers in their subject area was clear and was communicated to their students.
